On behalf of Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and the National Board
of the Liberal Party of Canada, we are pleased to announce the
appointment of Adam Smith as National Director of the newly- formed
National Liberal Fund.
The National Liberal Fund will assume responsibility for all of the
national fundraising activities of the Liberal Party including its
Laurier Club and Victory Fund donor programs, as well as all major
events and popular fundraising over the internet and by direct mail. I
am confident that our new and more focused approach to fundraising will
help us to continue to close the competitive fundraising gap with our
principal opponent, which we so significantly narrowed last year.
Adam Smith brings a wealth of experience and an impressive
track-record of success to the leadership of the National Liberal Fund.
As our Director of Fundraising during a period when we modernized and
adapted our fundraising philosophy and techniques in response to the
political party finance reforms initiated by Prime Minister Chretien’s
government early in this decade, Adam knows what we have to do as
Liberals to ensure our party has the finance machinery required to
operate and win elections in the 21st Century.
I am delighted to confirm that Adam will begin immediately in his
new role, working closely with our national fundraising staff and our
network of extraordinary fundraising volunteers from every part of
Canada as we build toward victory in the next general election.
