Hon. Lawrence MacAulay

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Cardigan. He was first elected to the House of Commons on November 21, 1988, to represent the constituency of Cardigan in eastern Prince Edward Island. Mr. MacAulay’s cabinet appointments have included Solicitor General of Canada, Minister of Labour, Secretary of State (Veterans), and Secretary of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). He has also served as Associate Critic for Fisheries and Oceans, and was Official Opposition Critic for Seniors. In addition, he chaired the Atlantic Caucus. Mr. MacAulay was previously a farmer and businessman. Mr. MacAulay won his eighth consecutive election in 2011 and currently serves as Liberal Party Critic for Fisheries and Oceans and Vice Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans. Mr. MacAulay was born on September 9, 1946, in St. Peter's Bay, Prince Edward Island. He and Frances Elaine O'Connell were married in 1972 and they have three daughters: Carolyn, Rita and Lynn.

Your Candidate for Cardigan

Hon. Lawrence MacAulay

Lawrence MacAulay has proudly represented the riding of Cardigan for more than 25 years. He first served in Opposition and was appointed to Cabinet under Jean Chrétien as Secretary of State for Veteran Affairs in 1993. Lawrence later served as Minister of Labour and the Minister responsible for Prince Edward Island within the federal Cabinet. In his most recent Cabinet position, Lawrence served two terms as Solicitor General of Canada. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Fisheries and Oceans and as the Liberal Critic for Fisheries and Oceans. Before entering politics, Lawrence was a successful seed potato and dairy farmer and he remains active within the PEI community. This year he was named PEI’s longest serving MP and also proudly holds the PEI record for hugging the most people in a single day. Lawrence looks forward to continuing to serve the Cardigan community and representing their interests in Ottawa.
