A first-generation Canadian, well-regarded lawyer, and working mother, Bang-Gu Jiang is committed to making Canada and the riding of Markham-Unionville a better place to live, work, and succeed. After teaching at the China University of Political Science and Law, Bang-Gu immigrated to Canada in 1989 and continued her education at Centennial College and York University – all while raising her family. Bang-Gu obtained her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2003, completed her articles in the Law Division of Ontario Power Generation, and started her own law firm in 2004. An advocate and active community leader, Bang-Gu has served as President of the Sichuan Association of Canada, President of the Canada-China Realty Professional Association, and Vice-President of the Chinese Professionals Association of Canada. In 2013 she was appointed to the York Regional Police Services Board by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and was a recipient of the Chinese Business Excellence Award (Social and Community Influence). She is also a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal recipient. Bang-Gu believes in a society that works for everyone – one with greater economic opportunities for all Canadians and more social justice in our communities.
