Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager position is responsible for the accounts payable and general ledger functions within the operations of the organization. General accounting tasks include and are not limited to: the production of periodic reports; contributing to the maintenance of accounting records; ensuring adherence/offering suggested improvements to a comprehensive set of internal controls ; prepare the monthly financial statements; contribute to the accuracy of the party’s reported financial results; ensure reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards; and to assist the Controller as needed.

Job Duties

  • Payables
    • Oversee and coordinate the functions of the Accounts Payable department, including workloads and flow.
    • Adhere to and ensure compliance with the policies and procedures for the Accounts Payable department.
    • As required, answer and resolve queries from vendors with respect to payment status.
    • Review and investigate invoices and communicate errors to relevant parties and departments.
    • Other duties shall be assigned as required.
  • General Accounting
    • Establishment of procedures and processes
    • Plan and participate in upgrades to system
    • Lead and participate in the year-end audit process
    • Contributions to special projects as they arise
    • Ensure regular bank reconciliations are completed and provided to the Controller for review.
  • Budgets
    • Assist in meetings with stakeholders for the annual budget.
    • Compiling and reviewing the budget results from the stakeholders and review of results with the controller.
    • Continually assess the design and applicability of the system of budgeting and recommending improvements.
  • Reporting
    • Prepare the monthly financial statements and other financial reports including those pertaining to statutory reporting for a registered political party. Completeness review of results with the controller.
    • Continually assess the design and applicability of the system of reporting and recommending improvements.
    • Prepare and discuss cash balances reports.
    • Other duties and special projects as required.



  • Post-secondary degree in business or accounting
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Ability to manage priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).

Considered an asset:

  • Enrolled in the CPA program or in final stages of completing the CPA program.
  • Sound knowledge and experience with and Great Plains, Concur and Kwiktag software.
  • Proficient in the Canada Elections Act
  • Excellent computer skills, an in particular, use of Excel and Great Plains Management Reporter would be an asset.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and orally with staff and other stakeholders.
  • Bilingualism would be an asset
