Sophie Grégoire Trudeau is recognized across Canada as a television personality, but more importantly, as an activist, volunteer and speaker on a variety of subjects, including self-esteem, eating disorders, mental health, and issues relating to women and children.

Recipient of the 2013 UN Women National Committee Canada Recognition Award for her contribution to human rights.

In addition, she has lent her voice as spokesperson to a multitude of causes, including: UN Women National Committee Canada, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Dove’s “Pay Beauty Forward” program, 60 Million Girls Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart Truth, The Weekend to End Breast Cancer, WaterCan, Me to We (Free the Children), BACA, BANA, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, Girls for the Cure, FAB Women, the Looking Glass Foundation, the Vagina Monologues, la Maison Doris, Sheena’s Place, and more.

Fully bilingual, Sophie studied Commerce at McGill University, and finished her B.A. in Communications at the Université de Montréal. She completed another degree at École de radio et télévision Promédia in Montreal.

Sophie worked in sales and advertising (Sid Lee) before landing a job as a journalist in LCN’s newsroom, becoming their resident cultural reporter. Later, she spent five years as CTV eTalk’s Quebec cultural reporter, and was a host and contributor to a variety of other shows, including: Coup de Pouce and Les Lionnes on Radio-Canada, Salut-Bonjour Weekend on TVA, TVA’s wildlife program Bec and Museau, as well as Z tv’s Teksho and TSX, a series on the technology behind entertainment and extreme sports. She has also co-hosted and participated in numerous radio shows with CBC Radio One, CKMF, CKOI and CKAC.

Dedicated to women’s rights

Sophie was a national ambassador for Plan Canada’s “Because I am a Girl” initiative, as well as a spokesperson for the Shield of Athena, a non-profit organization for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.

In 2010, she was invited to attend Governor General Michaëlle Jean’s Women’s Conference. She hosted the official United Nations Women Canada gala in Ottawa, and was the honoured guest and speaker at the McGill Students for UN Women Canada.

In 2012, Sophie launched the celebration for Plan Canada’s first-ever United Nations acclaimed “International Day of the Girl.” Sophie also collaborated with a team of renowned researchers in women’s mental health from Montreal’s Douglas Hospital, and was named ambassador to the Mini-Psych School to help share the latest research and knowledge on the issue with Canadians.

A mother of three, Sophie’s outdoorsy and energetic personality translates into lots of active family time in nature. She is a fearless soul driven by a passion to discover and enjoy new activities.

A mother of three, Sophie’s outdoorsy and energetic personality translates into lots of active family time in nature. She is a fearless soul driven by a passion to discover and enjoy new activities.

Her intrinsic curiosity and her willingness to explore spirituality motivated Sophie to study hatha yoga and attain her certification. She is now completing her kundalini yoga teacher certification and offered classes on a volunteer basis at a public school close to her home.
